Thank you for visiting the detail page for SmTimes (Smoke Times), your personal smoking management app.
SmTimes goes beyond just recording the number of cigarettes and the time you smoke. It features an innovative "Time Navigation Guide" designed to help you avoid "over-smoking."
Here, "over-smoking" simply means smoking more than the "Target Number" you have set for yourself.
The purpose of this app is to help you stay within your own self-determined goals—it does not force you into any unreasonable or stressful smoking cessation or reduction.
On this page, we will explain the features, usage, and mechanics of SmTimes in detail.
1 Features
1-1 Smoking Logs & Display
- Daily Cigarette Count:
Track your total number of cigarettes for today at a glance. - Detailed Time History:
View a complete log of your smoking times for today, as well as histories from previous days. - Daily Stats & Averages:
Check your daily cigarette totals and see your overall daily average.
All smoking records are color-coded, allowing you to see your peak smoking hours and whether you’ve over-smoked instantly at a single glance.
1-2 Know Exactly When You Can Smoke Next! "Next-Smoke Time Navigation"
Based on your current smoking pace for the day, the app automatically calculates and displays the recommended time to wait before your next cigarette ("Next Target Time").
By using this time as a helpful guide throughout your day, you can effortlessly reach the end of the day without ever exceeding your daily cigarette goal.
What is "Over-Smoking"?
It means smoking more than your self-defined "Target Number" within a single day.
1-3 Track Your Pace with 2 Key Metrics!
- Visual Pace (Progress Bars): By comparing the "Time Progress Bar" and "Count Progress Bar" at the top of the home screen, you can intuitively see your general smoking pace relative to how much time has passed in your day.
- Pace by Time Difference: The app calculates the gap between your custom "Base Interval" (tailored to your lifestyle) and your "Actual Smoking Interval" for that day, showing you the exact time difference.
What is a "Smoking Interval"?
It is the amount of time between one cigarette and the next.
Our app uses this smoking interval as the foundation to calculate your smoking schedule and pace.
2 Setup & Usage
First, open the "⚙️ Settings" tab to tailor the app to your unique lifestyle.
2-1 Set Your Daily "Target Number"
Choose the maximum number of cigarettes you want to allow yourself each day. You can select anywhere between 5 and 30 cigarettes.
Tip for beginners: Don’t push yourself too hard at first! Try starting with just 1 or 2 fewer cigarettes than your current daily average.
2-2 Set Your Daily "Counting Hours"
While SmTimes allows you to log your smoking 24 hours a day, setting your specific "Counting Hours" is essential to tailor our core "Time Navigation" feature perfectly to your lifestyle.
(Please note: Smoking logs are calculated on a daily basis and cannot be carried over to the next day.)
Count Start Time: Your wake-up time, or the earliest time you usually smoke.
(Selectable in 1-hour increments from 0:00 to 12:00)
Count End Time: Your bedtime, or the time after which you no longer smoke for the day.
(Selectable in 1-hour increments from 13:00 to 24:00)

2-3 The App Calculates Your "Base Interval"
Based on the three settings above, the app automatically calculates and displays your "Base Interval" (in minutes).
This is the theoretical, even interval required if you were to smoke your 1st cigarette at the Count Start Time and your final target cigarette at the Count End Time. In other words, it represents the even spacing needed to perfectly hit your goal.
The app treats this Base Interval as your "ideal smoking interval" and compares it with your actual smoking times to determine your real-time "Smoking Pace." This pace is clearly displayed on the "Smoking Pace Badge" on the home screen.

2-4 Logging a Smoke
❶ Check if it is time to smoke
Before lighting up, check whether your current time falls under the app-guided "Available Smoking Time" or "Outside Counting Hours." You can easily tell by the background color of the Count Button and the behavior of the timer.

⚠️ Outside Counting Hours (or Waiting Time)
Status: See the "Outside Counting Hours Cases" section below.
Count Button: Blends into the background in a subtle dark gray.
Timer & Progress Bar: Actively counting down.

✅ Available Smoking Time
Status: When your "Next Target Time" arrives during your counting hours.
Count Button: Lights up in full color (matching your theme).
Timer & Progress Bar: The countdown ends and changes to display "[Cigarette Number] OK!"
Cases: Outside Counting Hours (or Waiting Time)
From 0:00 until your Count Start Time: The period before your active daily tracking begins.
When the "Next Target Time" has not yet arrived: The waiting period during your active counting hours to maintain your pace.
From your Count End Time until 24:00: The period after your active daily tracking ends for the day.
❷Tap the Count Button
When you smoke, simply tap the "Count Button" located at the very bottom of the home screen. That’s all there is to the basic operation! (Note: If you tap the button outside available smoking hours, a confirmation alert will pop up.)
❸Check your Next Target Time
After tapping the button, take a look at the "Next Target Time" displayed on the home screen. This is your guided time to stay on track for your daily goal. Try your best to wait until this time comes before lighting up your next cigarette.
⚠️ Ending Navigation & Count Limits
When Navigation Ends: Once you pass your Count End Time OR you have smoked your daily Target Number, the navigation features (the calculation of your target intervals and next target time) will automatically end. (Please note: You can still continue to log additional cigarettes even after navigation ends.)
Daily Maximum Limit: Regardless of the circumstances or app status, the maximum number of smoking logs allowed per day is strictly capped at 30 cigarettes.
2-5 What Happens When You Log a Smoke
When you tap the Count Button, the app automatically executes the following actions in the background:
- Increments your daily cigarette count by 1.
- Records the exact time you tapped the button as your "Previous Smoke Time."
- Recalculates your "Target Interval," "Smoking Pace Badge," and "Next Target Time" to match your latest real-time data.
- Starts the countdown timer and progress bar leading up to your Next Target Time.
Updating the Target Interval: Calculating the "Remaining Balance"
The "Target Interval" is the recommended waiting time (in minutes) that the app automatically recalculates every time you tap the Count Button.
It is calculated by taking the "Remaining Time" (from your current smoke time until your Count End Time) and dividing it equally by your "Remaining Cigarettes" for the day (Target Number minus your Current Count).

4 Tips for Success
4-1 Adjusting Your Target Number
Many of you might be thinking, "I want to cut back on smoking for my health!" However, even just skipping a single cigarette during your long-standing daily routine can be incredibly mentally exhausting. On top of that, knowing how to pace yourself to achieve that reduction can feel completely overwhelming.
The core concept of SmTimes is simple: "Coexist smoothly with smoking, using the Target Number you set as your absolute limit." Since you are the one in control of this target, cutting back simply means lowering your Target Number within the app.
That being said, trying to drastically cut back all at once rarely works. The reality is that breaking habits built over many years overnight is incredibly difficult.
Instead, focus on making small, manageable changes step by step. Go at your own pace. Use this app to regularly review your Target Number and aim for a gradual, stress-free reduction.
Once you have successfully lowered your target, take a look back at your monthly history screen. You will notice that days which used to be marked in green (showing successful reduction back then) would now appear in red (as over-smoking) under your new, stricter standard. Realizing, "Wow, did I really used to smoke that much back then?" will give you a powerful, tangible sense of the progress you’ve made toward cutting back—or even quitting for good.
4-2 Evening Adjustments During Significant "Slow Paces"
If you find yourself on a "Fast Pace" during the first half of the day, do your best to stick to the "Next Target Time" in the second half. Even if you over-smoked a bit early on, following the app's guidance in the evening will help you perfectly balance your count by the end of the day.
On the other hand, if you are on a "Significant Slow Pace" (meaning you smoked much less than usual), a little trick is required. As mentioned earlier, the app operates on the logic of "allowing you to smoke up to your Target Number by the Count End Time." Therefore, if you have a lot of leftover cigarettes near the end of the day, the app will automatically shorten your "Target Interval."
For example, if you have 120 minutes remaining and 6 cigarettes left to hit your goal, the app will calculate your Target Interval as 20 minutes. Naturally, forcing yourself to smoke every 20 minutes just to hit the target is not good for you.
In this scenario, use your "Base Interval" (your ideal smoking interval) as your anchor.
Here is how to do it: Take a look at the "Smoking Pace Badge" in the center of the screen. Simply flip the minus sign (-X min) to a plus sign (+X min), and mentally add those minutes to the displayed "Next Target Time."
By doing this, you can easily calculate: Previous Smoke Time + Base Interval = Your Natural, Stress-Free Next Target Time.
4-3 Other Specifications & "Subtly Convenient" Features
- Adaptive Scrolling Layout: On devices with shorter screens (approximately 640dp or less), or when font sizes and display scaling are turned up in your device’s system settings, the upper information area will automatically become scrollable to prevent layout distortions and keep the interface clean.
- Quick-Resume on the Record Tab: If you put the app in the background or close it while viewing a tab other than "Record," the app will automatically relaunch directly back on the "Record" tab. This ensures you can always tap the Count Button instantly the moment you open the app.
- Fixed Portrait & Dark Mode: Regardless of your device's system settings, the app is locked in "Portrait" orientation and features a unified "Dark Mode" color scheme that is exceptionally easy on your eyes.
- Easy Current Time Check: The app is designed to keep your smartphone's top status bar visible at all times while the app is open. If you ever find yourself wondering, "Wait, did I tap the Count Button just a moment ago?" you can instantly find out by simply comparing your "Previous Smoke Time" with the current time in the status bar.
- Battery-Friendly Design: To eliminate unnecessary power consumption, the app’s countdown timers completely pause whenever the app is closed (in the background). The moment you reopen the app (in the foreground), it instantly recalculates the time elapsed and resumes, ensuring zero wasted battery life.
- Haptic Feedback: Tapping the Count Button delivers a subtle, satisfying vibration (haptic feedback) to your device. This intuitive response gives you instant physical confirmation that your smoke has been successfully logged.
- Craving-Free Design: To avoid triggering your urge to smoke whenever you open the app, we intentionally avoid using explicit smoking imagery, icons, or language. The clean and neutral interface is carefully crafted to keep your mind at ease and support your pacing goals without psychological pressure.
